Pros and cons of AcuraLink Navigation app for iPhone and iPad

AcuraLink Navigation app good for

Press the app button on the dash and say yes on your phone to let it connect. You can use the in dash touchscreen and buttons to navigate the all. You can even stream music at the same time.
After reading the other reviews, I was reluctant to purchase this. I am now happy I did, for $60, this is a great navigation system. I saved thousands of dollars by not adding the navigation to my Acura ILX. This is a great option. The only flaw is that you loose the app when a phone call comes in. It returns after you hang up, and occasionally the screen goes fuzzy. This is very comparable to the navigation system that comes in an Audi. Hopefully they improve the few flaws with an update.

Some bad moments

In my humble opinion, this app is horrible. I actually use the maps app on my iPhone a lot more than using this app. The routes are not accurate, it takes a while for it to stop searching and start route guidance, and it gets off track quite a bit. I can be driving down the highway and pass an exit/turnoff and on screen it will seem as if I took that exit. And it takes the app a few seconds to realize that Im still actually traveling down the highway. When this happens the route has to be recalculated which can take a while and can and will cause you to miss turns.
The app was great initially when I used it a year ago. Now I taking a road trip and the app cannot connect to the service. I suspect its from the numerous iOS updates. At $50 for the app, Acura is certainly not proactive in maintaining their app. Guess its the same with their Takata airbags.
Having just purchased a 2016 ILX without the Tech package this was a great option. After buying the cables and downloading the app I find this navigation system to be perfect for my needs. Its even better than the Sync navigation system in my newer F150. Dont let the $59.99 price scare you, its worth it. And instead of purchasing a second download for my wifes phone, I simply used Apples family share feature to load it onto my wifes iPhone.
It is good choice for ur car if you dont wanna pay thousand to get NAV system. It has a problem that when you are using it sometime the navigation doesnt update where you are it just stuck at the middle of the road so i think they should fix this problem!!
Once the app syncs up, everything works smoothly as advertised. Its a wonderful alternative to more clunky embedded GPS solutions, and the live traffic data is a plus to help route your drive around. Initial app/car pairing can be confusing at first, but after you get the hang of it its a well worthwhile $60 investment vs several thousands for the dealer installed alternative.
I love the convenience this provides for not having the built in navigation system however it feels like its a few years behind in terms of feature functionality. When choosing a destination it would be helpful to see different route options and allow you to choose one prior to starting the route navigation. Also it needs to calculate for traffic better as the estimated time provided has been way off during rush hour drives. Again its a great alternative for the built in navigation system but if you are charging for the app I think improvements should be made considering there are free apps that are much better.
